OARC Spring 2023 course

The OARC runs courses that prepare you to take your Basic or Advanced amateur radio operator exam. The course starting in February 2023 is for Basic qualification.

What, how, when, where?

  • Format:
    This course will be taught over Zoom.
    Lessons are recorded so that you can re-watch or catch up if needed.

  • Date and time:
    Every Sunday from February 26 to May 28, 2023 from 2 pm to 5 pm ET.
    No classes on long weekends.

  • Cost:
    $100 general public.
    $80 for members of Scouts and Guides.
    $50 for the first 10 IEEE members to sign up.

  • Materials:
    All study materials and Zoom recordings are supplied via Google Drive.

Instructors

Harrie VE3HYS has been a licenced amateur since 1975. He has worked in the broadcast business since 1983 on all things technical – AM and FM transmitters, microwave radio links, computer networks, audio consoles and audio chains, etc. He has been teaching amateur radio courses since 2019, is an active Scout leader and member of the OARC executive. He is involved in New Hams Ottawa and Youth On The Air (YOTA).

Thane VA3TTM obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering in1988. He has worked on the design and verification of commercial radio systems including Wimax, LTE, and XGP. He received his amateur radio license early in 2006, and holds the honours, advanced and 5 WPM certificates. Thane volunteers at the Scouts Museum and at the Diefenbunker museum, maintaining and operating radio equipment. Thane has been giving radio courses since 2018.

How to register and pay

  1. Send an email to courses@oarc.net requesting to be registered for the course. The course coordinator will send you any login details you need to attend the Zoom sessions and access the Google Drive.
  2. Send your fee via Interac e-transfer to: oarc.payment@gmail.com. Please include your name and mention the course registration in the e-transfer comments so we can credit you properly.

Be sure to pay the fee within a week of the start date or you may have your Zoom and Google Drive access revoked.
