Possible Problems When Forwarding OARC Email Notices
|
Summary:
Many people like to forward the OARC email notices they receive to friends, but we do not recommend it for the reasons detailed below. Instead, you can direct your friends to the OARC email archive which is found at https://oarc.net/email-notices/ . Every OARC notice sent since 2022-06-05 is available on that page.
|
How Notices Are Sent:
The OARC uses a mailing service called MailPoet to send out OARC notices.
|
- MailPoet sends individually addressed emails to each recipient.
- MailPoet requires users (the OARC) to include a personalized unsubscribe link in every email.
- MailPoet customizes each email to enable tracking of bounces, link clicks, and unsubscribe requests.
Possible Problems With Forwarding:
- Some email services encode links sent in email messages as a blanket anti-spam measure, so if you forward an OARC notice, the links to articles may not work.
- If you forward an OARC email notice, you are also forwarding your personalized unsubscribe link. If the recipient forwards the email notice yet again, the unsubscribe link goes with it. If anyone in the chain clicks the link, it will unsubscribe YOU.
- Canada's Anti Spam Legislation (CASL) requires immediate removal of a subscription upon request by the recipient, so we cannot send you an "Are you really sure?" message.
More Details:
- MailPoet required the OARC to go through several validation steps prior to enabling their service. These steps are there to weed out spammers.
- MailPoet is absolutely free for up to 1000 subscribers, so it costs the OARC nothing.
- MailPoet has successfully delivered 100% of the email we have sent using it.
