DESCRIPTION:Get involved with World Amateur Radio Day 2026! \nOttawa Amateur Radio operators will join others worldwide in celebrating World Amateur Radio Day\, taking to the airwaves in celebration of amateur radio and commemorating the formation of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) on April 18\, 1925. The IARU has announced that the theme for this year’s World Amateur Radio Day will be “Advancing the Spirit of Amateur Radio Through Innovation”.  Here are a few local activities: \n\nThe newly created AuxComm services team\, is planning an exercise in West Carleton\, where they will set up radio stations in several locations to demonstrate passing messages between communities using both the VE2CRA and the  VE2REH repeater systems. There will also be a demonstration table at the Kinburn Client Centre where you can learn more about why this technology is becoming so popular for off-grid communication especially during emergencies. Drop by from 10:00pm to 3:00pm to find out what you need to get started.\n\n  \n\nRadio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) is once again holding a “Get on the Air on World Amateur Radio Day” special event in which it encourage as many Amateurs as possible to get on the air and contact as many RAC stations as possible. Contact one or more of these stations will be eligible for a special commemorative certificate noting their participation in RAC’s Get on the Air on World Amateur Radio Day Event. The same link will allow you to volunteer and indicate what time you are available and your preferred duties (set up\, operating\, tear down\, etc.) \nField Day involves setting up temporary transmitting stations to demonstrate ham radio’s science\, skill and service to our communities. One objective of Field Day is to contact as many stations as possible and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. OARC Field Day attracts lots of experienced Amateur Radio operators from across the region. We also have a Get On The Air (GOTA) station for new hams\, where an experienced ham will guide the newly certified through the process. And the OARC gets Field Day points for any new hams who make contacts on that station. \nField Day has been an annual event since 1933\, and remains the most popular event in ham radio\, attracting more than 31\,000 hams throughout North America. If you are an exhibitor (e.g.\, local amateur radio club or service organization)\, book a table to engage with potential new members and other audiences. Fee: Tables: $17 per 8-foot table (does NOT include admission fee) All tables are 8 feet long. Children 12 and under are free. Parking: FREE! Coffee and snack concession in the lobby area. \nWrite your Amateur Radio exam on-site\nWrite your Amateur Radio Operator Certificate exam at Hamfest under the supervision of an examiner accredited by Innovation\, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). You don’t need to book ahead – you can just show up! You can also upgrade. If you are upgrading\, bring the 11-digit certificate number on your current Certificate to speed processing. \nVolunteer at Hamfest\nEd\, VE3WGO\, has been delivering Hamfest since 2007 and we’re all so grateful to Ed for his organization skills and boundless energy. SUMMARY:OARC Radio in the Park (RITP) 2026
DESCRIPTION:Get involved with OARC Radio in the Park (RITP) 2026\nJoin fellow Club members\, along with your friends and family\, and set up portable Amateur Radio stations at Walter Baker Park in Kanata.  The activity runs from 9:00am to 1:00pm\, rain or shine. With a little help from local hams\, passers by can participate in “fox hunts” (using radio direction finding techniques to locate one or more radio transmitters hidden within a designated search area) and can “Get on the Air” under the supervision of a certified ham. \nCLICK HERE TO GET A FREE TICKET (this link will be active closer to the time) \nWe ask everyone to register in advance because this helps us to know how many people are coming and allows us to send you reminder closer to activity. \nParticipants should be self-sufficient. No food or drinks will be provided. Washrooms are available in the adjacent arena.
