SUMMARY:CLICK HERE TO REGISTER for the OARC UHF/VHF Ground Plane Antenna-Building Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the OARC UHF/VHF Ground Plane Antenna-Building Workshop. This project will be of interest to anyone who has a UHF/VHF Amateur Radio transceiver and is looking for a better antenna to improve their radio transmit-and-receive performance over the rubber-duck antenna (on a handheld). \nDate: Sunday\, May 10\, 2026\nTime: 1:00pm to 4:00pm\nCost: $25 for OARC members / $35 for non-members (the fee covers the cost of supplies and small tools)\nLocation: Scouts Headquarters\, 1345 Baseline Road\, Ottawa \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER AND PAY FOR THE OARC UHF/VHF GROUND PLANE ANTENNA-BUILDING WORKSHOP\nThis link takes you to Zeffy\, our secure\, zero-fee Canadian online payment system. \nWORKSHOP OUTLINE \n\nThis simple-but-effective\, and very versatile\, antenna consists of an SO-239 panel-mount connector with four ground plane radials: one connected to each of four fasteners on the corners of the panel mount connector\, and one more vertical rod as the main element.\nIt can be mounted on a piece of PVC pipe and set up temporarily or even permanently attached to a fence or tree or anywhere that will offer a higher location. The connector can be set on the PVC pipe and the feedline drops to the ground through the pipe. The pipe\, feedline\, and feedline connectors are extra but available\, once you know how high you want to put your antenna and how much feedline you need.\n\nIf you don’t have any previous soldering experience\, then we encourage you to take the OARC Soldering Skills workshop first. You are expected to have your own soldering iron and basic tools for this workshop; however\, the Club can provide some basic tools that you can borrow during the session if you don’t have everything you need.

SUMMARY:CLICK HERE TO REGISTER for the OARC 2-Metre Rollup J-Pole Antenna Building Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the OARC 2-Metre Rollup J-Pole Antenna Building Workshop. This project will be of interest to anyone who has a Handy-Talkie (HT) Amateur Radio (10-25 Watts transmit power) and is looking for a simple but effective antenna to be able to improve their radio transmit-and-receive performance at home or when operating temporarily at a park\, camp ground\, or the cottage. \nDate: Sunday\, May 24\, 2026\nTime: 1:00pm to 4:00pm\nCost: $30 for OARC members / $40 for non-members (the fee covers the cost of some supplies and small tools)\nLocation: Scouts Headquarters\, 1345 Baseline Road\, Ottawa \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER AND PAY FOR OARC 2-METRE ROLLUP J-POLE ANTENNA BUILDING WORKSHOP\nThis link takes you to Zeffy\, our secure\, zero-fee Canadian online payment system. \nWORKSHOP OUTLINE \n\nThe antenna is simple but effective\, and very versatile in that it can be rolled up and carried in a backpack or ziplock bag and attaches directly to your radio antenna.\nYou can throw it up in a tree or bring a telescopic fishing pole mast to get it up 10 or 20 ft. If you travel\, you can even clip it to your hotel room curtains so you can participate in local NETs wherever you may be.\nThe fee covers the cost of the antenna\, 10 feet of RG316U feedline terminated in a BNC or SMA connector. (A BNC/SMA adapter will be available for order at a nominal cost\, should you require one.)\n\nIf you don’t have any previous soldering experience\, then we encourage you to take the OARC Soldering Skills Workshop first. You are expected to have your own soldering iron and basic tools for this workshop; however\, the Club can provide some basic tools that you can borrow during the session if you don’t have everything you need.

SUMMARY:CLICK HERE TO REGISTER for OARC End-Fed Half Wave Antenna Build Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The End-Fed Half Wave (EFHW) Antenna Build Workshop will be of interest to anyone who has a multi-band HF amateur radio with up to 100 Watts of transmitting power.  Assemble a 49:1 Un-Un transformer in mounting hardware with a SO-239 feedline connector\, and optionally connect an antenna wire suitable for 80/40/30/20/17/15/12/10m or 20/17/15/12/10m bands.   \nDate: 31 May 2026\nTime: 13:00-17:00\nCost:  Non-members pay $10 more \n[] $75 – EFHW Antenna workshop with Un-Un transformer only\, no antenna wire\n[] $85 – EFHW Antenna workshop with Un-Un transformer AND 34’ antenna wire (20/17/15/12/10m bands\, suitable for portable use)\n[] $120 – EFHW Antenna workshop with Un-Un transformer AND 132’ antenna wire (80m band\, also resonant on 40/30/20/17/15/12/10m\, suitable for permanent installation)   \nLocation: Scouts HQ (1345 Baseline Rd Ottawa\, ON K2C 0A7\, Canada)   \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER AND PAY FOR THE END-FED HALF WAVE ANTENNA BUILD WORKSHOP\nThis link takes you to Zeffy\, our secure\, zero-fee Canadian online payment system. \nWORKSHOP OUTLINE \n1. Introduction\nDefinition and Purpose: An End-Fed Half-Wave (EFHW) antenna is a popular resonant wire antenna designed to be one half-wavelength long at its lowest operating frequency. Unlike a center-fed dipole\, it is fed at the end\, providing high installation convenience\, and it naturally resonates on both odd and even harmonics of that base frequency.\nBasic Components: 49:1 Un-Un transformer\, feedlineconnector\, mounting hardware\, antenna wire   \n2. Design and Construction (overview of tools\, materials and techniques)\nMaterials Supplied: 2 x 240-43 torroids; 100 pF capacitor; 14-gauge enameled wire; PVC junction box; cable ties; SO-239 and misc. hardware.\nConstruction Techniques: PVC junction box will be pre-drilled  \n3. Hands-On Building Session (assembly and troubleshooting)\nPractical Assembly: Participants build their own 49:1 Un-Un transformer in PVC junction box under supervision\, applying the techniques learned.\nTroubleshooting: Guidance on common issues that may arise during construction and how to resolve them.   \n4. Testing and Tuning (performance testing\, tuning techniques)\nPerformance Testing: Instructions on how to test the Un-Un and antenna’s performance using SWR meters and other tools.\nTuning Techniques: Methods for adjusting the antenna for optimal performance\, including compensation coil\, coax counterpoise\, middle-of-wire capacitor   \n5. Conclusion and Q&A (wrap up and open discussion)\nWrap-Up: Summary of key points covered in the workshop.\nOpen Forum: Opportunity for participants to ask questions and share experiences related to EFHW antennas.
