SUMMARY:REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED for the OARC UHF/VHF Ground Plane Antenna-Building Workshop
DESCRIPTION:*** REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED *** \nJoin us for the OARC UHF/VHF Ground Plane Antenna-Building Workshop. This project will be of interest to anyone who has a UHF/VHF Amateur Radio transceiver and is looking for a better antenna to improve their radio transmit-and-receive performance over the rubber-duck antenna (on a handheld). \nDate: Sunday\, June 14\, 2026\nTime: 1:00pm to 4:00pm\nCost: $25 for OARC members / $35 for non-members (the fee covers the cost of supplies and small tools)\nLocation: Scouts Headquarters\, 1345 Baseline Road\, Ottawa \nWORKSHOP OUTLINE \n\nThis simple-but-effective\, and very versatile\, antenna consists of an SO-239 panel-mount connector with four ground plane radials: one connected to each of four fasteners on the corners of the panel mount connector\, and one more vertical rod as the main element.\nIt can be mounted on a piece of PVC pipe and set up temporarily or even permanently attached to a fence or tree or anywhere that will offer a higher location. The connector can be set on the PVC pipe and the feedline drops to the ground through the pipe. The pipe\, feedline\, and feedline connectors are extra but available\, once you know how high you want to put your antenna and how much feedline you need.\n\nIf you don’t have any previous soldering experience\, then we encourage you to take the OARC Soldering Skills workshop first. You are expected to have your own soldering iron and basic tools for this workshop; however\, the Club can provide some basic tools that you can borrow during the session if you don’t have everything you need.

SUMMARY:CLICK HERE to register for OARC Field Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:June 27 \, 2026\, 2:00 pm (18:00 UTC) to June 28\, 2026 4:59 p.m (20:59 UTC) at Scouts Headquarters\, 1345 Baseline Road. Setup on June 26. \n   CLICK HERE TO REGISTER AND VOLUNTEER FOR FIELD DAY 2026 \nRegistering in advance helps the OARC prepare for the correct number of people. The same link will allow you to volunteer and indicate what time you are available and your preferred duties (set up\, operating\, tear down\, etc.) \nField Day involves setting up temporary transmitting stations to demonstrate ham radio’s science\, skill and service to our communities. One objective of Field Day is to contact as many stations as possible and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. OARC Field Day attracts lots of experienced Amateur Radio operators from across the region. We also have a Get On The Air (GOTA) station for new hams\, where an experienced ham will guide the newly certified through the process. And the OARC gets Field Day points for any new hams who make contacts on that station. \nField Day has been an annual event since 1933\, and remains the most popular event in ham radio\, attracting more than 31\,000 hams throughout North America. Field Day is sponsored overall by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and\, in Canada\, by Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC). Explore full details and rules on ARRL Field Day webpage more about the RAC Field Day webpage \nClick here to read about last year’s Field Day: OARC Field Day 2025.
