Skating on thin ice …
I’m writing this just after spending time on the expressway known as the ARRL CW DX contest, and looking forward to QSYing to the pot lid net where things are more like a leisurely chat along a country lane. Either way, it is nice to actually spend some time in front of the radio again.
It has been a busy week/month. It seems that the work on the refurbishment of RAC HQ, and the establishment of a station there has taken up almost all of my hamming time recently. It varies from trying to figure out how much of what coax we will need, to sorting out paint colours, to the current, seemingly endless debate about how to arrange shelves on the station operating positions. I’m sure something out of all this HQ stuff will end up in a project on homebrew night. Sitting down and copying callsigns at 35 WPM in QRM begins to seem easy in comparison.
We recently heard celebrations of World Radio Day, although that was more for broadcasters than us. (By the way, note to newbies, hams don’t broadcast. Find another verb!) Our celebration comes on April 18, World AMATEUR Radio Day. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, I’m heading back out to move yet more snow around. It hasn’t been a bad winter around here, but I’m still impatiently waiting for spring.
Maybe with the canal being open, at least for a while, we will start hearing POTA stations from on it. Watch out for that trailing radial behind the skater with the big backpack.
73, and as always, keep warm.
