2025-07-01 RAC Canada Day Contest 2025 – Report

I expect most people were “hammed out” after field day. Some wouldn’t want to take another summer day away from the rest of the family, however a few of us went to RAC HQ to hand out the VE3RHQ callsign and say happy birthday to the rest of hamdom.

We had VA2BBW, VA3EIC, VA3NTB, VA3UDA, VE3TXB, VE3YTZ and of course VE3FFK.

We had SSB and CW going, and kept an ear on 146.52 as well. There were around 300 contacts handed out over Monday night and Tuesday. (Start time of 0000Z means you can still play the night before Canada Day comes to the Eastern time zone).

One of the highlights of the events was when I asked UDA to call CQ on 10m CW. The band was dead, but he had a very new Morse qualification, and I hoped he could smooth out his sending. He did get better as he went along.

then

Out of the completely dead band VE3QO answered his CQ. After the shock/panic the necessary info was exchanged. It may have been UDA’s first complete CW QSO. A second one followed shortly after and a new CW op is launched.

We didn’t have cake or balloons this year, but we did have fun.
