First a bit of VE3RHQ news for those who read this but not the Discord site: By the time this gets out, the UHF and VHF cp Yagis will be connected to the rig in the shack, for either terrestrial or satellite work. That should (should) be the last of the work on the roof until spring, finally.
In other news..
I have something of a dilemma. I have a hankering for a new rig. I don’t need one by any means. I keep dithering between “It looks so nice, can I take it home with me, please?” and “You already have 5 HF rigs that you don’t use from one year to the next, plus the one you do use sometimes. Don’t go getting another one just because you fall for a pretty face.”
Maybe if I sold some of the other rigs? Well, they might fetch a few cents on the market, but which one(s) would I be able to part with? The one with the buttery smooth QSK, the intrepid little rig with the quirky keyer circuit, or maybe the other QRP rig, which is the only QRP rig in the house with SSB capability. I couldn’t sell the versatile DC to daylight rig, because that rig is just a little insane at the moment. I once tried to sell the 1970’s early solid state rig, but ended up buying it back from the guy a few years later, for a little less than I sold it for. None of these rigs would bring enough to even pay for the shipping on a new toy. There’s enough in the piggy bank anyway to buy whatever I decide, since it has been accumulating change for well over a decade since the last time I had this “problem”.
Even if I were to get another rig, which one would it be, that shiny new one from the big three, or the amazing QRP rig that keeps smiling at me from the manufacturer’s website. I recognize this is definitely a “first world problem”. Maybe I’ll just stare at the pictures and read the manufacturer’s propaganda for a little while longer. Who knows, maybe the urge will pass (but I know somehow it never quite does).
May all your decisions be this inconsequential, and all your leaves fall on someone else’s yard.
