The Ottawa Amateur Radio Club will be collaborating with West Carleton Disaster Relief to operate portable Amateur Radio stations at several locations in West Carleton to help demonstrate how Amateur Radio can be used to connect communities together, especially during an emergency or natural disaster. The locations are:
Bring your mobile or portable station for a shift and show community members how it works. The OARC will provide Get on The Air (GOTA) stations at some location for curious members of the public.
To volunteer and indicate your preferred location and shift, please click this link. (The link takes you to Eventbrite, a secure online ticketing system)
We also encourage mobile hams in the area to try to make contact from various locations throughout West Carleton and the broader National Capital Region.
If you are NOT a ham, bring the family and learn all about the different forms of radio communications – and perhaps get on the air under the supervision of a licensed radio amateur.
Ottawa Amateur Radio operators will join others worldwide in celebrating World Amateur Radio Day, taking to the airwaves in celebration of amateur radio and commemorating the formation of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) on April 18, 1925. This year is the IARU’s 100th anniversary and the theme for the day is “Entering the Next Century of Amateur Radio Communications & Innovation”.
