The 2022 OARC AGM minutes are not available yet, so this is an UNOFFICIAL summary. All of the details are believed to be correct.

It was important that all OARC members attend the 2022 AGM because the president, Dave VE3BOW, was not standing for re-election and we needed to elect a new president. Unfortunately at the time of the AGM, no one had stepped up to occupy this vital executive position. If you or any other OARC member that you know would be willing to become president, please send an email to executive@oarc.net ASAP.

All of the 2022 executive members have agreed to carry on in their current positions for 2023. Rick VE3IHI presided over the required nomination and election activity but no new candidates for any position were proposed or volunteered to stand.

A year-end Christmas drawing was held using the magic wheel of fortune and 4 lucky members each won $50 RadioWorld gift certificates. The winners were: Dave VE3TLY, Bryan VE3ZRK, Clayton VE3IRR, and Wayne VE3QO.

Meeting details

Under the club’s constitution, we must hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM) by the end of the year.

The City of Ottawa has informed us that room rentals will not resume before 2023, so this AGM will be a Zoom meeting. Once the business portion of the meeting has concluded, we will have whatever kind of holiday festivities (traditionally goodies to eat and drink) we can muster.

The main order of business is to present a slate of candidates, seek new expressions of interest for positions (vacant and occupied) and have the members confirm the executive for 2022-23. The slate of candidates to be presented at the AGM would hold office through to and including the 2023 Annual General Meeting.

The current president will address the attendees, the membership director will present a membership report, and the treasurer will present the club’s financial statements. Other items of business may also be discussed and voted upon if needed. A random drawing will be used to award $50 gift certificates to 4 lucky members in good standing. You MUST be present to win.

For the OARC to run properly, we need people to step up and fill the executive positions. You can see a full list of the incumbents at https://oarc.net/executive/ . Some of the incumbents are prepared to stay on, but others have been serving for a long time and would like to step back and let someone else fill their position. Please email executive@oarc.net if you are willing to help or know of someone who would. Of course, these are not sink or swim positions. You would have complete support from the other members of the executive as you acclimatize.

The OARC executive consist of a board of 7 directors, namely:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Three (3) directors at large (they have no fixed duties)

The immediate past president is a member of the board, bringing the total to 8 directors.

The board also appoints two additional directors (for a total of 10) namely:

  • Editor of the club bulletin (Groundwave)
  • Chair of the repeater committee

Appointed committee chairs are not board members or directors. Committee chairs include:

  • Membership
  • Website
  • Industry Canada Delegated Examiner
  • Hamfest
  • Radio in the Park (RITP)
