Exam-in-nation
Exams have quieted down after the rather hectic pace I reported at the end of last month, but there is still another one on the calendar for next week.
To VHF or not?
The ARRL June VHF contest happened but, as sometimes happens, I just wasn’t in the mood. That said, I can’t resist the call of a strong CQ on 6m, so I just had to work VE3KG in Smiths Falls or thereabouts, and KW0J, who was in Iowa.
Trading CW nets for fishing nets …
The last Pot Lid Net of the season is coming up on Sunday June 18, 2023 at 19:30 ET 50.090 MHz HPol CW. I missed the last two nets, so I hope there are still a few of the gang hanging in there.
Outstanding in his field …
Field Day is a month closer than it was at my last report, and things are coming together. The tripod I built for 2023 World Amateur Radio Day (WARD) is now ready for Field Day, after making the tweaks I considered last month. We “sort of” know what antennas we want to put up, and where. We will miss the trees and light poles we had at Corkery, but a Field Day without challenges would get to be routine, wouldn’t it? It just means more challenges getting wires in the sky. The generator was test run this morning and ran flawlessly. Packing will start this weekend. One advantage of working from an established station is that there is one less transceiver, power supply, tuner and assorted kit to be transported out and back. Another advantage is that under the rules, we don’t have to wait until midnight Zulu on Friday to begin to set up. Murphy says we will need the extra time once the plans hit the territory. Wish us luck.
Oh Canada
Then get ready to hit the air again on Canada Day the following weekend.
