What to do in the dead of winter
January, and real winter has arrived, just in time for Winter Field Day and the Canadian Ski Marathon.
At this point, it looks like VE2OJ will be missing in action once again during the CQ 160 CW. As with the ARRL test in December a good chunk of the team just can’t make it. I guess that means I’ll get to spend more time on winter field day this year. Usually it is an afterthought, squeezed into the weekend when propagation on 160 drops off. – Not so sure about operating WFD from outside this time. Doing so at a cottage in the middle of nowhere is one thing, but the folks on the other sides of my backyard fences think I’m loopy enough already without that. In any case, my headphones aren’t up to the challenge of blocking out the noise of a snowblower.
This coming weekend I will also put in an effort into the ARRL VHF thing.
I had lots of fun in the Canada Winter Contest, with no shortage of contacts and a few surprises.
The pace over at RAC HQ is picking up, and it seems that project will take more of my time each week.
Between that and shoving snow around the time seems to be going past at a fair clip. I’m already counting days ’till spring.
