A huge thanks to all the Amatuer Radio operators who came out on Saturday, May 4th to provide radio-communications support to CN Cycle for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).

There were 41 operators altogether, some on bikes, at least one on a motorcycle, some on foot, some at fixed stations along the various routes, and some at the command post. Richard VE3UNW pulled it all together and acted as Net Control, as he always does. The Ottawa Amateur Radio community is fortunate to have his leadership on this community event and on the Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour, which is coming up on June 21st and 22nd.
This year’s CN Cycle attracted about 6,500 participants who pedalled their way along 15 km, 35 km, 70 km or 100 km cycling routes, or walked one of the 2 km and 5 km walking routes, under sunny skies. Learn more about CN Cycle for CHEO.
The event raised over $2 million in donations for pediatric oncology care and research at CHEO. It was also a great opportunity for members of the OARC to get involved in providing radio-communications support as a public service.
